What to do in a crisis

These steps follow NHS guidance on getting urgent help. Take them in any order that feels manageable.

  1. Get to safety

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to the nearest A&E.

  2. Tell someone

Reach out to a person you trust. You do not have to explain everything, just that you need help.

  3. Contact professional help

Call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or ask your GP for an urgent appointment.

  4. Use a support line

Samaritans on 116 123 or Shout by texting SHOUT to 85258 are free and always open.

  5. Go somewhere that feels safe

A room, a place or the company of someone who helps you feel calmer.

  6. If you are worried about someone else

Ask them directly how they are, listen without judgement, and help them contact 999, 111 or Samaritans.

You can also contact your GP and ask for an urgent appointment. Abantu isn't an emergency service and we can't respond to messages straight away.
